Injectables:

On Today’s Episode of “Make Mother Mad Monday” we have ~Injectables~

It has been awhile since I blogged and it has probably been even longer since I blogged about something so seemingly superficial but honestly I think this is a useful piece to write.Growing up I am sure I was not alone in having a mother who vehemently discouraged me changing my appearance- no hair dying, no acrylic nails, eyelash extensions? do you want it to look like you have living spiders on your face? and don’t get her started on injectables.
And I am honestly grateful I grew up with her in my ear on those things.  My hair I mostly leave alone, my nails aren’t fake but they’re long and they’re always done, I spent the last 6 months with volume lash extensions on and at the end of 2020 at the age of 25 I finally ventured into the world of injectables.  After living in Columbus I have seen some JANKY lips and some botched face work for sure, especially working at a nightclub and had I not been turned off to injectables at a young age I might’ve strayed down a less savory road as well. I never really thought I “needed” injectables. But then again I never really thought I needed SPF. I used to say by the time I look like a leather bag I will have enough money to fix it but around 24 I noticed on the very rare occasion I would wear makeup it would sink into creases in my forehead that I didn’t know I had and not that that bothered me that much but I’m still in my prime and I had heard that Botox usage had preventative qualities so why not try it out.

The Botox Appointment:

I was pretty anxious for my first appointment. I’m not afraid of needles and my pain tolerance has to be at least average if not above but for some reason I was cold sweating by the time I was in the chair.  We did above my eyebrows and my “11” lines.  It barely hurt, some pricks didn’t even register and the worst of them made me involuntarily squint my eyes. There was not screaming, jerking, bleeding, etc. My first experience with Botox was a partnership so I do not know how many units I ended up with but it was 30 units at minimum. The first MedSpa I went to charges $11.50/unit for Botox.

After:

In the following days/week I had no bruising and it was only slightly uncomfortable as my skin felt like it was beginning to tighten and raise. The end result was amazing.  I didn’t look plastic or surprised, I simply looked more even and less wrinkly. I still had facial expression ability without the “withered at 25” look. It lasted about 3 months.

Xeomin:

For my second round of injectables we used Xeomin, a Botox equivalent touted by Gweneth Paltrow and the like. It was slightly more uncomfortable than the Botox but nothing terrible. It worked quickly- I would say it worked faster than the first time but I’m no scientist.  Xeomin costs $12/unit and I got $40 units.

Lips:

We did 0.4mL of Versa because I really just wanted a super natural, barely noticeable fill to make my lips more symmetrical.  My lips were numbed and then injected.  I’m going to be honest the general consensus around lip filler is that it hurts and yes it hurts.  It is more uncomfortable than Botox even when numbed but with that being said I survived it.  It doesn’t hurt so bad you cry it is just generally pretty uncomfortable.  I had ZERO bruising and only minor swelling for the first 1-2 days.  Versa costs $600/syringe and it is sold by the syringe (i.e. you can’t just buy half a syringe).

Some notes:

If you are going to have injectables done RESEARCH and COMMUNICATION are your friends.  Research the MedSpa you are going to, look at all the injectors’ work, go for a consultation and communicate clearly what you want the results to be.  The first MedSpa I went to had a nurse injector and she was wonderful and did a great job.  The second MedSpa I went to I was injected by Dr. Graham who was also wonderful.  Spend MORE for quality and experience, this is your FACE we are talking about here.

-Columbus residents, I HIGHLY recommend SolutionsIV MedSpa in Dublin. Dr. Graham is incredibly knowledgeable and can give you exactly what you ask for.  Use code Maia2021 for 10% off and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
